Built to Keep Pressure Where It Needs to Be
Compressed Air Piping Systems
Air Components installs and supplies Kaeser SmartPipe, a modular aluminum piping system built for compressed air, vacuum, and inert gas service across Michigan facilities.
Why Piping Choice Matters
Piping selection drives the three things every compressed air system depends on: flow, pressure, and air quality. Getting it wrong means you pay for it every shift with:
Pressure drop from rough internal surfaces and undersized lines forces compressors to work harder
Leaks at threaded steel joints can waste 20% to 30% of total compressed air production
Rust and scale inside steel pipe contaminate downstream tools, filters, and finished products
Heavy steel takes longer to install, especially on overhead runs, driving up labor costs
Modifying a welded steel system to add a drop or relocate equipment turns into a project
Never use PVC for compressed air. PVC piping can shatter under compressed air pressure and send shrapnel across a shop floor. It's a documented safety hazard and is prohibited by OSHA for compressed air service. If your facility currently runs PVC for compressed air, replacing it is the first project we'd recommend.
Choose Your SmartPipe
SmartPipe+ (3/4" to 2-1/2")
Key Specs
Lightweight aluminum piping for branch lines and drops to point of use. Push-to-connect and compression-style connectors install fast with hand tools, and modifications are quick when you need to relocate a drop or add a workstation.
- Sizes from 3/4" to 2-1/2" (DN 20 to DN 63)
- Pressure rating up to 232 PSIG (16 bar), higher pressures available
- Operating temperature -22°F to 248°F
- Suitable for compressed air, inert gas, and vacuum to 98.3% (29.5" Hg)
- Push-to-connect fittings install with hand tools
Applications
- Branch lines off main headers
- Drops to individual workstations, tools, and equipment
- Point-of-use connections in machine shops and assembly lines
- Retrofit work in existing facilities
SmartPipeXL (3" to 10")
Key Specs
Larger-diameter aluminum and stainless steel piping for plant headers and main distribution lines. Bolt-on connectors handle the higher flow rates of main runs while keeping installation time well below welded steel.
- Aluminum sizes 3" to 8", stainless steel at 10"
- Pressure rating up to 232 PSIG for 3" to 6", 188 PSIG for 8"
- Operating temperature -4°F to 176°F
- Full-bore fittings to minimize pressure drop on main runs
- Bolt-on connectors for fast, leak-free assembly
Applications
- Main headers feeding multiple branch lines
- Distribution piping from compressor room to production floor
- New compressed air installations on greenfield projects
- Plant expansions and capacity upgrades
Not Sure Which Pipe Sizes You Need?
Pipe sizing depends on your compressor capacity, your CFM demand at the point of use, and your acceptable pressure drop across the system. Our team will assess your project, size the headers and drops to your demand, and quote you on a complete installation, materials and labor included.
50+ Years of Customer Trust
Installation, Leak Audits & System Modifications
SmartPipe is designed to install quickly, but it still benefits from someone who's done it many times before. We handle the whole project, or come in to support your in-house team where it makes sense.
- Turnkey new installations, from compressor room to point of use
- Compressed air leak audits with ultrasonic detection equipment
- Phased replacement of failing steel pipe without shutting down production
- System expansions and capacity upgrades
- Integration with existing steel, copper, or aluminum lines
